Recreating a brief moment of significant history for the town of Diekirch. Here the 7th Combat Engineer Battalion of the 5th Infantry Division built a pontoon bridge spanning the Sauer River on Jan 18, 1945, of course, it was complicated by the fact that the Germans of the 352nd Volksgrenadier Division tried to delay it and even use the time to their advantage. The US had two previous bridges destroyed before succeeding the crossing and losing a good number of men. This event was also happening down the river in Bettendorf and will be re-enacted again this January 2020.
